Google Fi vs Visible: Costs, Hotspot & Travel

Visible is the cheaper starting point for one U.S. line with a hotspot. Google Fi deserves a closer look if several people share your bill or you want international data without buying daily passes. Compare the particular plans: Fi Unlimited Essentials has no hotspot, while Fi Unlimited Premium includes travel benefits that the cheaper Fi plans do not.

This Google Fi vs Visible comparison uses U.S. prices in dollars and official terms checked on November 3, 2026. It compares published plans, not hands-on coverage or speed tests. Device payments and optional extras are separate from the service prices below.

Compare regular prices before introductory discounts

One phone lineRegular monthly priceAnnual payment option
Google Fi Unlimited Essentials$35, plus taxes and government feesMonthly billing
Google Fi Unlimited Standard$50, plus taxes and government feesMonthly billing
Google Fi Unlimited Premium$65, plus taxes and government feesMonthly billing
Visible$25, taxes and fees included$275 upfront
Visible+$35, taxes and fees included$375 upfront
Visible+ Pro$45, taxes and fees included$450 upfront

These are the published regular rates on Google Fi’s plan page and Visible’s plan page, not a quote for a financed phone. An annual payment is money due in advance, not a monthly installment. Check the renewal and cancellation terms before committing to a year.

Fi also has Flexible: one line starts at $20, plus $10 per GB and taxes and fees. At 0.5 GB, that is $25 before tax; at 2 GB, it is $40. Those are calculations, not sample bills. Google’s plan comparison explains the separate data charge. Flexible is worth considering for genuinely light use, but the $20 headline is not an unlimited-data price.

Check the discount you can actually keep

Fi currently advertises 50% off for 12 months when an eligible new customer brings a Pixel. Its Pixel offer terms define new as never having Fi, or having left more than 180 days earlier. Activate the unlimited line on a Pixel within 30 days of signup. Each qualifying group member must sign up before the checked deadline: November 10, 2026, at 8:59 a.m. PST, or while supplies last.

The one-line plan-charge components would be $17.50, $25 or $32.50 with that discount. Credits also apply to eligible taxes and fees, but not financing, device protection or international charges. Trial customers are excluded, and the offer cannot combine with device promotions. Changing or suspending the account, or leaving an eligible unlimited plan, stops credits. Check the full terms before signing up; neither a free Pixel nor a permanent half-price bill is part of this calculation.

Visible’s HOLIDAYHACK offer terms give new members $6 off monthly service: $19 for Visible for up to 12 months, $29 for Visible+ for up to 36, or $39 for Pro for up to 60. Enter the code at checkout. Annual plans are excluded. Uninterrupted service is required; downgrading ends the discount, while upgrading preserves the original remaining period rather than restarting it. After the credits, the then-current regular rate applies. It generally cannot stack with other service promotions, apart from the stated existing-member referral-credit exception. Visible may change or end it; no fixed deadline appears in the checked terms.

At the checked HOLIDAYHACK rate, twelve Visible+ payments total $348, compared with $375 upfront for its regular annual plan. That is our conditional arithmetic, not a second discount. Check eligibility before transferring your number, and compare what happens after the promotional months as well as the first payment.

Hotspot allowance and phone data are different limits

PlanPhone data ruleHotspot rule
Fi Essentials30 GB high speed, then 256 kbpsNot included
Fi Standard50 GB high speed, then 256 kbps25 GB high-speed allowance
Fi Premium100 GB high speed, then 256 kbps50 GB high-speed allowance
VisibleUnlimited; congestion can reduce priorityUnlimited data, up to 5 Mbps
Visible+Unlimited premium dataUnlimited data, up to 10 Mbps
Visible+ ProUnlimited premium dataUnlimited data, up to 15 Mbps

Google’s data limit explanation distinguishes fixed slowdowns from hotspot allowances. Fi’s tethering guide confirms the hotspot limits. Read both before treating “unlimited” as unlimited full-speed laptop use. Fi’s optional additional fast data costs $10 per GB after the allowance; that can change the bill quickly.

For example, someone who needs 40 GB of laptop tethering should not budget around Fi Standard’s 25 GB high-speed hotspot allowance. Someone who needs a fast transfer for a short work session may prefer an allowance-based plan to a hotspot speed ceiling. These are different trade-offs; neither table proves a carrier is faster at your desk.

Visible’s higher tiers advertise unlimited premium data on 5G and LTE. That priority does not remove its general network-management policy: mobile use above the current 450 GB threshold may be reduced to 1.5 Mbps for the rest of the billing month. The threshold reflects the top 0.5% of users over the preceding six months and can change. Its hotspot ceilings are maxima, not promised speeds. Neither phone plan guarantees a replacement for household broadband.

Price the whole family’s bill

Fi’s group pricing changes the comparison. Regular Unlimited Standard is $80 total for two lines or $100 for four, before taxes and fees. Four $35 Visible+ lines total $140; four eligible $29 HOLIDAYHACK lines total $116. These calculations compare service charges, not identical data rules or a promise that every family member qualifies for a discount.

Write down each person’s needs before picking the cheapest household total. A parent who barely uses mobile data and a teenager who tethers a laptop do not need the same allowance. Fi gives group members separate data limits, so one person’s usage does not consume another person’s limit. Count watch service, device installments and any lost benefits on the plan you are leaving as separate budget items.

For travel, count usable days and covered countries

Fi Standard covers Canada and Mexico; Essentials has no international roaming service. For travel beyond those countries, Premium includes data in 200+ destinations, with 50 GB of high-speed international data rather than its 100 GB domestic allowance. Cellular calls abroad generally cost $0.20 per minute. Check the destination and call rate, not just the word “included.”

Fi’s international travel rules require activation and use in the United States before departure. If most usage is abroad over a consecutive 90-day period, international data can be suspended. This is a plan for U.S.-based customers who travel, not an unrestricted long-term overseas connection.

Visible uses Global Pass for many overseas destinations: typically $10 per day with 2 GB of high-speed data. Monthly Visible+ includes one pass day each month; Pro includes two, with banking limits. Annual versions supply 12 or 24 days upfront. Count the days actually available in your account before a trip, not credits you will receive after returning. Canada and Mexico are included on the higher tiers, with slower data after 2 GB per day.

A travel eSIM may be an alternative for a short trip, particularly if you can separate data from calls on your original number. Our travel eSIM versus international roaming guide explains that decision. Compare the trip cost with the extra service cost over the months you would keep a more expensive domestic plan.

Check your phone and everyday coverage before switching

Fi’s coverage explanation identifies T-Mobile as its nationwide network; Visible uses Verizon. Neither brand establishes which works inside your home. Check the exact phone’s compatibility and unlock status, then examine the places you actually use it: home, work and the route between them. A nationwide coverage percentage is not an indoor reception test.

  1. Use recent bills to record each line’s phone data, hotspot use and travel needs. Avoid choosing from the biggest advertised number.
  2. Save the offer terms and checkout total, including renewal, taxes, device balance and the activation deadline. Check whether taking a trial would disqualify a promotion.
  3. If you can test service before moving your main number, check ordinary calls and the apps you need at normal busy times. Do not interpret one speed test as a coverage guarantee.
  4. Keep the existing line active while arranging a number transfer. Have the account number and transfer PIN ready, and confirm the new service works before treating the switch as finished.

Start with Visible for a low-cost single line with ongoing hotspot use. Shortlist Fi when group pricing or regular international travel offsets its higher one-line price. If the comparison still depends on coverage you have not checked, resolve that before making an annual payment.
