Total Wireless vs Visible: Prices, Hotspot & BYO Deals

Consider Total Wireless MAX 5G BYO (bring your own phone) if you qualify for its discount and want premium phone data at a low monthly price. Compare Visible if you want faster hotspot options or a plan with smartwatch service. Both use Verizon’s network, so the brand name alone doesn’t tell you which plan will work better inside your home.

This Total Wireless vs Visible comparison covers U.S. consumer plans in USD, checked November 4, 2026. It uses published prices and terms, not personal speed tests. Phone purchases, financing and optional extras are separate.

Buying a phone instead? Total’s other one-line plans quote Starter at $35, MAX 5G at $50 and ALL ACCESS at $60 with Auto Pay, after first payments of $40, $55 and $65 respectively. Don’t apply the BYO price to a phone-purchase deal.

Total’s current headline says $20 after a $30 first month, but another comparison table on its plans page still lists $25 for BYO with Auto Pay. Treat $20 as the qualified offer, not a universal rate. Confirm the exact recurring amount before paying. Total also warns that one-time activation, transaction or equipment charges may apply.

Which offers can you actually get?

Total’s BYO terms require an eligible customer, compatible unlocked phone and SIM, and Auto Pay. The offer is limited to one per account. Its FAQ excludes Tracfone-brand phones; existing accounts adding a new line face separate conditions. Check your handset and quote.

The five-year guarantee covers the base rate, not promotions or Auto Pay discounts. Its new-subscriber terms exclude Total service in the previous 90 days and require continued eligible service. Don’t assume every discounted bill is guaranteed unchanged.

Visible’s HOLIDAYHACK terms require a new member, monthly billing and the code at checkout. Annual plans are excluded. Keep service uninterrupted. Downgrading ends the discount; upgrading keeps the original remaining promotional period instead of restarting it. Afterward, the then-current market rate applies. Other service promotions generally cannot stack, except the stated existing-member referral-credit exception. Visible can change or end the offer; the checked terms give no fixed deadline.

Under those assumptions, Total’s first twelve service payments would total $250: $30 plus eleven payments of $20. Twelve $19 Visible payments total $228. These are our service-charge calculations, not guaranteed checkout totals or proof of identical service periods. Check renewal dates and any setup charges before treating the $22 difference as your saving.

Visible’s current annual payments are $275, $375 and $450 for the base, Plus and Pro plans. They are upfront payments, not monthly bills. For an eligible new member, twelve $29 Plus payments total $348, below its $375 regular annual price. Paying annually therefore isn’t automatically the cheaper choice. Check renewal terms before committing a year.

Unlimited phone data and unlimited hotspot are different

Total advertises unlimited premium 5G data on MAX 5G BYO without usage-based deprioritization. Visible’s base plan can receive lower priority during busy periods; its Plus and Pro plans advertise unlimited premium data on LTE, 5G and Ultra Wideband. Those descriptions don’t guarantee a particular speed or overcome weak reception.

Visible’s network-management disclosure also allows device data to drop to 1.5Mbps for the rest of the billing month above a heavy-use threshold, currently 450GB. That threshold reflects the top 0.5% of users over the preceding six months and can change. Premium priority isn’t an exemption from every usage rule.

For a laptop connection, use the hotspot column above. The listed speeds are ceilings, not test results. Total ALL ACCESS raises its hotspot ceiling to 10Mbps; Starter has a 10GB hotspot allowance at up to 5Mbps. Visible warns that performance falls when several devices use its hotspot together.

Think about the task you need to finish. Sending a document and downloading a large game update put different demands on a hotspot. A higher ceiling can help only when the actual connection supports it. Check your ordinary work apps before cancelling home internet on the strength of the word “unlimited.”

Families and travelers need a different calculation

Total’s standard MAX 5G quote is $80 for two lines or $105 for four with Auto Pay. The $5 Auto Pay discount is per account; family lines use one plan level. Confirm the household price instead of multiplying the $20 BYO offer.

For comparison, four Visible+ lines cost $140 at the regular $35 rate, or $116 while all four independently qualify for $29 HOLIDAYHACK service. These are our calculations, not matching feature bundles. If some family members already use Visible, a new-member promotion should not be assumed to apply to them.

Total’s service and roaming terms specify a 10GB international roaming allotment, activation and use on its U.S. network before travel, and limits on extended overseas use. Visible+ and Pro include Canada and Mexico roaming with 2GB per day before 3G speeds. Check your destination and trip length; unlimited domestic data is not unlimited fast data abroad.

Coverage, support and your current phone still matter

Check each carrier’s device and coverage information for the phone you will keep. Start with the rooms where you take calls and the routes you use. Being on the same host network doesn’t make plan access, activation compatibility or busy-hour treatment identical.

Total offers retailer, phone and chat support. Visible has no stores and offers round-the-clock chat assistance. Choose the support route you would actually use if activation failed, rather than assuming one brand will resolve every problem faster. Neither service was tested for support quality in this comparison.

Total’s terms say plans are non-refundable and porting out loses unused service days. Don’t confuse a device return policy with a service refund. If you have handset financing or promotional device credits at your current carrier, include the cost of leaving before counting a lower monthly service price as your total saving.

What to check before switching

  1. Confirm the exact phone qualifies, is unlocked and supports the intended SIM or eSIM activation.
  2. Save the amount due now, the next service payment and date, the promotion’s duration, and its cancellation conditions.
  3. Check hotspot needs separately from phone data. Include any smartwatch or travel service you would otherwise pay for.
  4. Keep your existing line active until the number transfer succeeds. Get the account number and transfer PIN through the old carrier’s official process, and keep them private.

Total MAX 5G BYO belongs on the shortlist when you qualify and value premium phone data at its discounted rate. Visible+ is worth the extra cost if its faster hotspot ceiling solves a regular problem; Pro needs a reason such as compatible smartwatch service. If neither fits, compare Visible with US Mobile’s network and payment choices, or review prepaid versus postpaid costs before buying a phone deal.
